Fortnite Is Taking Over The World

Halo, Call of Duty, Gears of War… People have gone absolutely crazy for these online co-op games in the recent past. Those have now taken a back seat to something I do not often call a “game” anymore. I now refer to it as a revolution. It is spelled F-O-R-T… um… space?… Fortnite. The game is called Fortnite!

Millions and millions and millions of people are all about this third-person teen-rated cartoonish shooter game. Celebrities, athletes, young people, old people… EVERYONE is playing. That, of course, includes myself. I have been sucked into the sand trap that is the Fortnite community. That is not meant to be a bad thing, but the sand trap analogy works here. Once you step in, even just a little bit, you are going to get sucked in.

When I first looked into playing it, I had no idea that it would be FREE. Yes, you read that right. The most popular game right now, by a wide margin, does not cost you a single penny. Now you may have to pay for the online gaming service on whatever device you may be playing on (XBOX LIVE, Playstation… Online?, etc.), but the game itself is free. Fortnite allows players to buy things called “battle passes”, which include costumes, dances, and much more, but it is not a necessity to simply play the game.

Never in my life did I ever think I would play a video game for 10-15 hours on average per week, especially not at 23 years old with a full-time job. However, this game has become a part of my weekly and almost daily routine. To be honest, I couldn’t be happier about it. It’s a nice way to get away from work, bills, and whatever else may stress you out in your life.

Trust me, when you land in Titled Towers and die in the first five seconds five games in a row OR when you load up your inventory only to be taken down by a bush camper… it can piss you off like no other… but in the grand scheme of things, it is a nice way to hang out and chat with your friends, while playing a fun and extremely competitive game. It’s honestly perfect. It’s not too hard to figure out how to play, but it’s not too easy either. It’s not all about fighting and chasing people down. You need to search for things, build to protect yourself, and use a decent amount of strategy to get that Victory Royale.

This game brings me back to my middle school and even high school days when I would log on to XBOX LIVE to play Halo or Call of Duty with the boys after practice or on a weeknight when a snow day was just announced. Now at 23 years old with a job, bills, and multiple responsibilities, I still get to enjoy video games the same way I did 5-10 years ago.

If you haven’t played. Do it. Give in to the peer pressure. Your life will never be the same.

SIDE NOTE: The game is available on XBOX, Playstation, PC, and Mac, but Epic Games just announced that the exact same game will be coming to mobile devices very soon. STORY:

Also, I’m still not that great, but if you have XBOX LIVE and want to “squad up”, add me: TWebSTL
